Bhunaíodh Gaelscoil Aogáin i 1987 le 21 páiste agus ón gcéad lá ar aghaidh, tá sí ag dul ó neart go neart. Tar éis don Choláiste Phobail bogadh go foirgneamh nua i 1984, ghlac an Ghaelscoil seilbh ar an seanfhoirgneamh i 1987. Tháinig tuismitheoirí agus baill áitiúla de Chonradh na Gaeilge le chéile leis an sprioc chéanna: Gaelscoil a bhunú in Oileán Chiarraí. Ainmníodh an scoil in ómós d’Aogán Ó Rathaille (c. 1670–1729), file mór as Sliabh Luachra agus duine de na filí deireanacha den tseanchóras Gaelach, a raibh tionchar buan aige ar an traidisiún aislinge. Sa lá atá inniu ann, coinnímid beo an spiorad sin—meas ar an teanga, ar an gcultúr agus ar an bpobal—agus cuirimid fáilte roimh cách.
Is bunscoil lán-Ghaeilge muid agus ar ndóigh foghlaimíonn páistí gach ábhar trí Ghaeilge gach lá. Tá tumoideachas i gcroílár ár scoile agus cabhraíonn an Naíonra linn tús maith a dhéanamh le sin.
Tá páirc uile-aimsire, dhá chúirt chispheile agus clós súgartha. Is é The Lunch Bag an comhlacht a solatharaíonn lón te sláintiúil gach lá agus cuireann an Naíonra cúram roimh agus i ndiaidh scoile ar fáil, le béilí te.
Creidimid i gcomhoibriú láidir le tuismitheoirí. Trí Aladdin Connect is féidir tinreamh agus tuairiscí a fheiceáil, teachtaireachtaí agus nuashonruithe a fháil, agus eolas a fháil in aon áit amháin. Tá Coiste na dTuismitheoirí an-ghníomhach agus fáiltiúil. Cuidíonn siad le hócáidí agus tionscadail agus cuireann siad le saol na scoile. Más mian leat páirt a ghlacadh, bheadh fáilte romhat.
Gaelscoil Aogáin was founded in 1987 with 21 children and has gone from strength to strength since day one. After the Community College moved to a new building in 1984, the Gaelscoil took over the old building in 1987. Parents and local members of Conradh na Gaeilge came together with a common goal: to establish a Gaelscoil in Kerry Island. The school was named in honour of Aogán Ó Rathaille (c. 1670–1729), a great poet from Sliabh Luachra and one of the last poets of the old Gaelic tradition, who had a lasting influence on the Irish dream tradition. Today, we keep that spirit alive—respect for the language, culture and community—and welcome everyone.
We are an all-Irish primary school and of course children learn all subjects through Irish every day. Immersion education is at the heart of our school and the Naíonra helps us get off to a good start.
There is an all-weather pitch, two basketball courts and a playground. The Lunch Bag is the company that provides a healthy hot lunch every day and the Naíonra provides before and after school care, with hot meals.
We believe in strong collaboration with parents. Through Aladdin Connect you can view attendance and reports, receive messages and updates, and find information in one place. The Parents’ Committee is very active and welcoming. They help with events and projects and contribute to the life of the school. If you would like to get involved, you would be welcome.
